X Minutes: to write even more about food or not? that is the question.

(It turned out not to be too hard for me to ramble for 5 minutes after all, so I'm already experimenting with 10. So, 10 minutes of writing anything and everything that pops into my head, as long as I keep writing.)

Martha invited me to do a blog with her about food in Cedar Rapids or something like that. I am intrigued, but feel as though I need to come up with an angle. Lots of people do food blogs. I am not enough of a food blog aficianado to know what they all do, but I know that posting recipes is part of it. I do have something to say about food in terms of cooking food that can be frozen and taken for lunch, but I don't know how much I would actually be able to say on that topic. I have a finite number of recipes that I've tried so far, although I suppose I could post about new ones that I experiment with.

Restaurant reviews are also a possibility, and something that Martha mentioned in her message to me. I suspect we'll have to get together and brainstorm if this is something we want to do. Have to come up with a general theme, some guidelines for what we'll be posting, thoughts on having guest contributors and general post frequency.

The question is, what would I bring to this? She suggested she could do Iowa Tex Mex from a Texan's view. That sounds fabulous. I don't know if she would do it restaurant by restaurant, or by food. The best mole could be found in one place, but the best something else could be found elsewhere. But what would I bring to this?

What do I bring to this equation? I enjoy food. Quite a lot. I'm working on losing weight, but so are a lot of people in the world. I need to keep writing something because I'm threatening to stop, so I will write this sentence in hopes that it inspires another one.

I have been writing for four minutes and have another six. I need to use the restroom. Clearly I did not plan ahead on this writing exercise very well.

David and I went to Al's Blue Toad yesterday for our anniversary lunch. The food was delicious, and we got a lot of it! The only trouble we had was with the ambiance. It was strange to have wonderful dinner-like food in a bar. It was noisy, there were beer signs all over, and the TVs showing sports coverage were rather distracting. I wish Zindrick's was still there, though I know and understand how the Blue Toad morphed into being.

We ordered the Czech combo platter and shared it. We got two very large plates of food. So large that we divided one plate between the two of us and were quite filled. We also got reuben bites, which have to be the best deep-fried appetizer food I've ever had. Not entirely sure what made them so very delicious. Basically, they are fried balls of (rye) batter stuffed with corned beef, cheese, and saurkraut served with 1000 Island on the side for dip. Absolutely delicious in a deep-fried way.

I could be the burger conneisuer. I can't even spell that word, but I do love me some burgers. I am not familiar with cuisines from different regions in terms of authenticity, but I do enjoy going to regional/foreign food restaurants such as the Greek place and the Indian place. It would probably be themed with, I don't know about authentic, but I know what I like! And if I wrote a blog about different restaurants, I would have an excuse to try new places. I could easily write reviews of Siamville, Taste of India, the Greek place I can't remember the name of right now, Sushi House, and others. I'd have to do research on how restaurant reviews are written, so I can get a sense of how to proceed.

I think this covers my 10 minutes of time, and since I do have other things I need to attend to, I shall have to end here. This was a little harder, though. Must work on it more.
